The Christian church has made its mark in Britain since the third century. While so much good has come from this, the negative has taken its toll as well. Discrimination, persecution, and war have all come under the banner of Christianity. Today’s England feels the pains of this history.

The status of faith in England has changed even in the last fifty years. The Church of England reports that of those born in 1940, seventy percent had little or no church experience by the age of ten. We are now nearly four generations removed and the effects are amazing. Some estimate that as high as 80% of London (population: 7.5 million) has had no personal encounter with Christianity. This number is inevitably greater among younger generations.

In addition, London is now an international hub. People from more than 190 different nations now call London home. Forty-two of these nations bost of more than 10,000 people living in London. They bring with them a mix of heritage and faith. They are a bridge to the world. As we bring hope to the people of London, they can take that hope to the nations.
